Hadees about seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim:

The Holy Prophet said:

                                  طَلَبُ الْعِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِم

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”

Every Muslim means, male and female. That is, every Muslim, whether male or female, must seek knowledge. Knowledge means the Sharia, i.e., the knowledge of what is lawful and what is forbidden, and what is permissible and what is not, so that a Muslim may do only lawful and permissible things and avoid what is forbidden and unlawful. This knowledge has great virtue. Let us look at some hadiths about this. The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

And indeed, the seeker of knowledge asks forgiveness for everything, even the fish in the sea

Everything, even the fish in the sea, prays for forgiveness for the seeker of knowledge.“It is permissible to envy only two people: one who Allah has given wealth and then granted him the ability to spend it in the right way, and the other who Allah has given wisdom (i.e. understanding of the Sharia) so he makes decisions with it and teaches people.”

The superiority of Sharia knowledge is clear from all these narrations. Some sayings about knowledge are very famous but they have no basis, for example:

Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim and Muslimah»

The word ((Muslim)) is not proven in this, so its use is also not permissible.

Seek knowledge even if it were in China

This is also not proven by a chain of transmission, so this is true to the extent of the saying. This would mean that if you need to go to a distant country like China to gain knowledge,

you should not hesitate to do so, however, this hadith is not from the Prophet, as is well known:

Seek knowledge, from the cradle to the grave.

This is also true to the extent of the saying. Indeed, knowledge is such a vast ocean that no one can reach its end or bottom, and man remains a student until his death, however, this hadith*

The Messenger is not a servant.

The word wisdom is the seat of the wise, so wherever he finds it, he is more deserving of it.

The meaning is that knowledge and wisdom sometimes come out of the mouth of a person who is devoid of knowledge and wisdom, so whenever a wise person becomes aware of it, he should adopt it because he is the most deserving of it. This statement is also correct in its place, but its chain of transmission is also very weak, so it should not be attributed to the Messenger of Allah from Mayam.
